Kathryn Godoy, “an angel isn’t its wings”, mixed media on wood, 12x12”, 2023

Kathryn Godoy (they/them) is a 23 year old artist working in Ridgewood, Queens. They hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a concentration in painting. Kathryn has been creating a body of work that expands upon ideas of memory, psychoanalysis, and transformation that began in their thesis. Kathryn currently explores ways of making including writing, music, and painting. Recent works reference their life humorously, recontextualizing lines produced from a love of writing.

Using color, texture and opacity Kathryn evokes the sense of lush, magnificent, gelatinous psychic landscapes where time slows down but dust still moves. A previous focus on the body as architectural space and art-historical traditions still remain important in current work, however, the perspective has become more tender, emoting protection and healing. Rendering imagery of stars and celestial bodies Kathryn imbues a renewed spirituality and connection to the world around us here and now.
